In today’s world, the significance of representation and inclusivity in empowering women cannot be overstated. It sends a powerful message that women’s voices are significant and their contributions are valued. It gives role models for women to strive to and shows what is possible. Inclusivity ensures that women of various backgrounds, ethnicities, and identities are included and given a place at the table, resulting in a more varied and dynamic community. Empowering women through representation and inclusivity is not just about individual accomplishment; it is about creating a more equitable and justice for society. These two amazing women have dedicated themselves to creating positive change and empowering others through their actions and voices. Emma Watson, actress that known for her iconic role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, Emma Watson, well known for her famous portrayal as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, has grown beyond her on-screen image to become a fierce advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.
Watson’s as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, she founded the HeForShe campaign, which encourages men to act in solidarity with women to achieve a more gender-equal world. Watson’s talks, projects, and advocacy efforts have encouraged numerous others to question established conventions and fight toward a more inclusive and equitable society. She once said in a speech to the UN General Assembly to start the HeForShe campaign, she stated,
“I am from Britain and believe it is fair that as a woman, I get paid the same as my male peers. I believe that I should be able to make decisions regarding my own body. I believe it is appropriate for women to represent me in my nation’s policies and decisions. I believe it is appropriate that I be treated with the same respect as males in social situations. But, unfortunately, there is no one place in the world where all women can expect to have these rights.”
Nadia Murad, a Yazidi human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has spent her life working for survivors of sexual abuse and genocide. Murad, a victim of ISIS's genocide against the Yazidi people in Iraq, bravely shared her experience, becoming a voice for the voiceless. She works through her organization, Nadia's Initiative, to support and help survivors of human trafficking while also promoting responsibility for crimes against humanity. In Nadia’s Initiative she stated that,
“Without gender equality, our ability to enact change is limited. We must proactively work to achieve gender equality, because without it our quest to end gender-based violence may fail. And that is unacceptable. Whether it be through encouraging political engagement, strengthening policies in the workplace, or electing women to lead the nation, we must take a proactive stance starting today. But we must not rest, until those rights have been extended to all women in all communities in all countries around the world. We must think about how every one of us, individually, organizationally, and on a national level, can contribute to help reaching this goal. It takes a global village to ensure that women have equal rights and are represented and respected as decision-makers and leaders.
Sharing the experiences of Emma Watson and Nadia Murad could encourage all women to take action, create awareness, and support campaigns that promote equality and justice. These amazing women serve as beacons of hope and inspiration for all women, reminding them of the potential of individual action and communal solidarity in creating a more equitable and inclusive society. It allows people to tell their personal stories of challenges, determination, and accomplishment, breaking down boundaries and challenging prejudices. It also promotes disadvantaged perspectives and emphasizes social injustices. Let's celebrate and honor these extraordinary women who are leading the way towards a brighter future for all.
